PROMO: GROWING PAINS

5:43 PM 0 Comments

Title: Growing Pains (series)
Author: K.F. Breene
Genre: New Adult contemporary romance

On the tail-end of her ex-boyfriend crashing through a restraining order and putting her in the hospital, Krista realizes that the only way to effectively escape her past is to put distance between it. She gets her life back on track in San Francisco with a job that has limitless potential.

Unfortunately, to achieve her dreams, she must brave the star of the company; a charming and handsome salesman that isn’t used to the word no. Krista tries to run from him at every turn, but his pull continually sucks her back in; her hesitancy to trust the only thing saving her from being another notch on a bedpost.

Sean never has to try with women. He's the type of guy to jump in with both feet, get bored, and sprint right back out. But when a geeky new hire stumbles through the company, befuddling him with a keen intellect he doesn’t expect, he starts to lose his way. Before he knows it, all his efforts are concentrated around trying to capture the interest of the only woman to run when he tries to deliver a line. As she opens up, so does he, landing him in a terrain as disconcerting as it is invigorating.

The growing pains box set is currently on sale for 99 cents on Amazon, for a limited time! That's three books for under a buck!

A wine country native, K.F. Breene moved to San Francisco for college just shy of a decade ago to pursue a lifelong interest in film. As she settled into the vibrant city, it quickly became apparent that, while she thought making and editing films was great fun, she lacked cinematic genius. For that reason, her career path quickly changed direction. Her next goal was a strange childhood interest, conjured at the dining room table while filling out a form. For some reason, her young self wanted to be an accountant. Thinking on it now, she often wonders how she had any friends. Regardless, it was the direction she finally took.

While she could wrangle numbers with the best of 'em, and even though she wore the crown as the most outspoken, belligerent accountant in the world, her mind got as stuffy as her daily routine. It was here that she dusted off her creative hat and began writing. Now she makes movies in her head, not worried about lighting, shutter speed or editing equipment. Turns out, a computer is much easier to manage than a crowd of actors. She should know, she was an actor at one time.

PROMO: FIRE & FLOOD

4:00 AM 0 Comments
Day Number 3 of our Victoria Scott Week!

Today we have a sneak peak at one of the earlier scenes of the book! and guess who's there??

GUY!

FIRE AND FLOOD (FIRE & FLOOD #1) by VICTORIA SCOTT

A modern day thrill ride, where a teen girl and her animal companion must participate in a breathtaking race to save her brother's life—and her own.

Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can't determine what's wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She's lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she's helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It's an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother's illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there's no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can't trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

“If you are hearing this message, then you have successfully completed the Pandora Selection Process. It also means you are now at the official starting line.”

Around me, Contenders whoop with excitement. Seriously? They’re about to plunge into a wild jungle, and that brings them happiness? Once again, I realize how out of my league I am. I don’t even have a change of clothes, for crying out loud.

“As you may have realized, you are on the outskirts of a rain forest. This will be the jungle part of the course. You will have two weeks to arrive at the jungle’s base camp. You will find this base camp by following the path of blue flags.”

Contestants glance around, immediately looking for the first blue flag. As for me, I’m watching the taillights of the semi and having a massive coronary.

“If you are the first to encounter a blue flag, you may remove it, but you may not remove the stake it is attached to. Doing so will result in immediate disqualification.”

I wonder why anyone would want to remove the flag to begin with. No one else seems concerned by this.

“While the Cure will be awarded to a single winner at the end of the last ecosystem, we will bestow a smaller prize for each leg of the race. The prize for the jungle portion will be monetary.” The woman pauses dramatically. “I’d like to officially welcome you to the Brimstone Bleed. May the bravest Contender win.”

That’s it? That’s all she’s going to say? Because it seriously sounds like she’s wrapping up. So why aren’t I running after the trucks? Why am I not chasing after my only way out of this jungle like my life depends on it? I know the answer — though I wish I didn’t. Cody would do this for me. I am his only hope. I have to believe his cure exists. My only other option is to return home and watch my brother die. If I could even get back home.

I glance around frantically, looking for someone to tell me what to do. The Contenders have formed a long line, the kind you see at the start of a marathon. A few yards down from where I stand — I see him. My throat tightens when I realize his cold blue eyes are locked on me. It’s the guy from the Pandora Selection Process. The serial killer–looking dude who I thought was going to kidney punch me. He glares in my direction like he might take this opportunity to finish what he never started. I raise my hand in a small wave, hoping it says something like: See? Look how friendly I am!

He lifts his own enormous hand. For a moment, I brighten. I think maybe that — even though it looks like he hates every fiber of my being — he’s going to wave back. But he doesn’t. He holds up two fingers — his pointer and his middle — places them under his eyes, and then points in front of us.

Oh no, he didn’t. I think he basically just told me to pay attention. I’m still processing this when the woman’s voice rings in my ear.

“Go!”

Harper is one of the most interesting characters in my opinion. She represents the phrase "more than meets the eye". By the end is probably the character that most surprises you and I have a very soft spot for her.

FIRE & FLOOD Bonus Scene
Harper Shaw, Minor Character

The Brimstone Bleed started four hours ago, give or take. I’ve traveled as far as necessary for now, put adequate distance between myself and the other Contenders. There will be plenty who travel without stopping, without making a plan.

Idiots.

Like the others, I don’t know anything about this race, only that I need the prize—the Cure—more than I need my own beating heart. I can still remember my mother’s words as I left our home.

“I don’t know where you think you’re going, Harper,” she said. “But you can’t just leave us like this. Not now.”

But I did leave. It’s not like I could tell her about the invitation. Or explain what would happen next. Because the truth was, I didn’t know. Two days ago, I was lounging on my bed, listening to Linkin Park and watching MTV on mute. Today, I’m here, in a jungle, fighting to save the most important person in my life.

A caw rips through the late afternoon, and the dense canopy overhead rustles. I breathe in the smell of rich, damp soil that is almost invigorating. The air is thick and damp and clings to my skin, and everywhere I look is a plant I’ve never seen before. The world is a canvas of purple vines and orange flowers and greenery that swallows the ground beneath my feet. It’s both horrific and captivating at once.

Every few seconds, I stop to swipe insects off my skin. It doesn’t bother me. I’m not the squeamish type. The only thing I’m worried about is the egg in my Brimstone Bleed issued bag. A Pandora, the device said. An animal that will help me win this competition. My heart roars in my chest when the bag against my hip stirs once again.

Now that we’re alone, I drop to my knees and remove the egg. When I see a prominent crack down the side, my entire body buzzes with anticipation. I’ve never had a pet before. Not a dog, not a cat…not even a goldfish. And now I’m supposed to travel with an animal that could potentially save my life and Lillian’s? It’s hard to absorb.

The egg cracks again, and I freeze. My hands hover over the iridescent shell, unsure of what to do. But this Pandora doesn’t need my help. It’s eager to escape its prison, eager to fulfill its destiny. I admire its tenacity already, but my stomach churns wondering what my Pandora will be like. Will it be ruthless? Endearing? Will it make it so that I don’t feel utterly alone?

The egg burst open and I fall back, a gasp escaping my throat. I glance around to ensure we are alone. And when I look back, my hands shaking, my eyes widening, I see it—

A feather.

Sooo OMG!
You know when you read a sumary for a book and you know you need to read it asap? That's what I felt with Fire & Flood. And so far, all V's books.
The cover is beautifull. Bold and fragile at the same time and I feel like it represents the book perfectly.

Tella is your normal teenager. She just wants to have fun, go back to her old life where technology was an everyday thing and she could go shopping with her friends. More importanly, she wants to go back to a time when her brother wasn't sick.
Living in Montana feels like a prision and a torture while she slowly watches her brother die, so when a mysterious device appears at her room telling her she's invited to The Brimstone Bleed to compete for a cure, Tella jumps at it without thinking.

Tella is a great character. She's so relatable, a normal and breathing teenage girl with superficial interests and a big heart. Someone who puts her family over her own life and while she doesn't know much about races or how to live in the jungle, she goes anyway.
She's independet too, she doesn't let the situation get over her head, she puts her big girl panties and tackles the race. She knows they are all racing for the same thing so she can't trust them, but at the same time she's the kind of person who wants to believe in the best of people.

Victoria did an amazing job with all the characters in this book. The supporting characters are as well developed as Tella and the relationship with her brother. Each of them has a backstory that slowly reveals to the reader. You care about the characters as if they were your own friends.

Guy Chambers....
I think I like him even more than I do Dante Walker. Don't tell him though, he gets jelous!
Guy is the mysterious uhm guy who knows how to live in the wilderness, who likes his alone time and who can come to the rescue when needed. WhatI like about him is that he's not the I'm the big bad badass in the race who can beat anyone. He's simple a man in a mission and knows he can't afford to get distracted.

Pandoras. Pandoras probably make the whole book the great piece of art it is. This genetically modified animals totally steal the spotlight with their human behaviour mixed with their wild natures. I wish I could tell more about them without giving too much away, but I don't think it's a good idea.
All I can say is: I. NEED. A. PANDORA!!

The plot is excelent. The idea of the pandoras, the whole concept of the Brimstone Bleed, the mystery virus. I couldn't put it down. When you thing you have a solid idea of where things are going Victoria gives you a new plot twist and puts you back to square one.

Fire & Flood is a great opening for the series. There aren't slow moments but she manages not to rush the story in any kind.
Victoria Scott masterfully balances the tense and dramatic moments with light ones where you can meet the characters and their backgrounds. She show us glimpses of their lives and their ability to love the strangers they are with, even in the middle of a competition that could easily kill them as well as the virus will kill their love ones.

I'm really looking forward to the next book!!

Flirtilicious Blog Hop

7:38 PM 0 Comments

Hello Loves!!

So Valentine's Day was yesterday BUT the Flirt Squad and the awesome Rachel Harris have festivities going on until the 21th!
February is our month after all :)

And I have an excerpt to share with all of you!

At the corner of Saint Peter, he tossed money in a musician’s opened guitar case. Setting the painting beside it, he took Colby’s hand and twirled her in a slow circle. Tugging her close he whispered, “Dance with me.”
The world shrank to the two of them, and the sultry sound of a blues guitar. Jason’s hips brushed hers. Their eyes locked. And Colby was lost. A goner. As he slid his hand around her waist, guiding her left hand behind his neck with the other, she wondered how she ever thought she could do this without falling head over heels for him again. The boy of her childhood had been fantasy worthy. The man he’d become was real—battle tested and flawed, but still devastatingly perfect for her.
Neither of them spoke as they swayed to the rasp of the singer’s voice, the intoxicating thrum of his harmonica. They didn’t need to. She was pretty sure her feelings were written all over her face. She was exposed, vulnerable. And torn between wanting to believe the promise she thought she saw in Jason’s eyes and needing to steel her heart against it.
He made her want to believe that they could be different. That he could stay faithful and they could have a real shot. Loosening the binds around her heart would be taking a giant leap; she’d be abandoning her entire belief system. But Jason Landry may just be worth it.
The song ended. Drawing oxygen into her parched lungs, Colby turned to thank the musician. The old gentleman tipped his hat and gave her a sweet, missing tooth smile. “Y’all have a nice night now.”

If you haven't readt Rachel Harris' Taste The Heat, you should do so right now! The whole Love and Games series is excelent and the swooning men are to die for !

And what kind of blog hop would be if there wasn't a giveaway, right??

So for you my loves, here's the super raffle!

Excerpt
I look around and find George jumping and waving like crazy, it is so funny, he looks hilarious doing that, he’s like a girl that just got a new Barbie.
“Little girl, you ROCKED, beautiful, diva, everything.”, I still laughing when he hugs me tight, so tight, that I can’t even breath.
“Thank you George, let me get some water.”, Nice excuse to get rid of that tight hug.
“Wait, where is Jo? So, tell me, did you like it? Did I sing out of tune? Oh God, I was soooo nervous.”
“Jo went outside to answer a call, she’s so secretive lately with that phone. Said it was work, yeah, work at Saturday night, close to midnight, sure. You were wonderful, perfect. People are all talking about your voice. Ahhhh if I wasn’t gay, I would get you. I never knew you were so naturally sexy”.
I smile all happy with his comment, thinking, how wonderful was to realize my dream, then a dark thought crosses my head.
“I hope Danny doesn’t make me stop singing here. It would kill me”.
“Julie, he can even try, but after tonight, if you don’t sing here, you can sing anywhere you want. People are going to talk about your show for a long time.”, he says. “Oh, and Kellan “Alan” Kyle, couldn’t take his eyes off of you. I would take advantage of that and use that hot, tattooed body to get rid of the spider webs.”, he blinks. “I heard so many things about the way he plays that guitar, if you know what I mean.”
“Shit, George. You should wait for me to finish my drink before saying something like that.”, I say spitting water all over and laughing, trying to put myself together. It’s very hard to be a lady, with a friend like that by your side.
