Review + Giveaway: Falling For Her Fiance

Falling for Her Fiance by Cindi Madsen

Amazon / B&N / Goodreads

Published January 14th 2013
Entangled Publishing, LLC (Bliss)

Danielle and Wes have been best friends since college, so when Wes needs a date for his sister’s wedding and Dani needs a partner for her company’s retreat, they devise the perfect plan: a fake engagement to get through both events unscathed. Adrenaline-junkie Wes can prove to both his ex and his family that he’s well and truly moved on, and serious-minded Dani can prove to her boss that she’s worthy of the promotion he seems to only want to give to a family-oriented employee.

But amid the fake swoons, fake kisses, and forced proximity, neither expects the very real feelings that develop. There’s nothing more dangerous than falling for your best friend…but what if the landing is worth the fall?

I don’t think my poor tummy ever felt so many things before. Also, I don’t think I ever got so many weird look because of reading in public. Getting teary eyed and then smiling like a fool in love in the beach is bound to do that, though.

Falling For Her Fiance is a book full of romance, comedy and lots of emotion in each page.

Dani and Wes have been best friends since freshman year in college. They push each other to do impulsive things and have amazing adventures together. And while life made Dani move a few states over, they still talk to each other for hours on the phone.
Problem is, Wes family is convinced he is so not over his ex fiance and bridesmaid for his sister wedding. And Dani’s after a promotion she’s sure she won’t get because she’s single and her boss is all about family... the two kinda crazy friends figure out that pretending to be engaged at each other will be the perfect solution for their problems... nothing can go wrong and people has believed there was more to them than friendship anyway... see? perfect plan...
Right.

Dani is a lovely character. She worries about her family and tries to help them as much as she can, but for that she really needs the promotion. And after her last boyfriend dumped her, she is not really sure she can go back to the game.

Wes is impulsive, a dreamer in its purest form. He wants to be free and being a helicopter pilot is all he needs in life. But for most people, he needs to grow up, and learn some responsibilities.

The relationship between these two is such a beautiful thing. They know each other inside and out. They never let someone else get in the middle, something no boyfriend/girlfriend was happy about. They can have an easy banter that had me laughing (Cue more weird looks from people around me) But there’s more to them than that.
They complement each other perfectly: Dani is more like the voice of reason of the two, always overanalyzing everything while Wes just loves to jump into things and figure things out on the way.

The book’s writing is beautiful. Cindi Madsen really makes you feel the characters and their emotions while they struggle to deal with their feelings and keep intact their friendship.
The secondary characters were so well developed and added the perfect background for the story. Each one of them adding a bit more, Wes’ family is so full of love and always stepping into each others business that they make sure you have a laugh.

In all, the book is a perfect romance read.

I couldn’t put it down, read it in a day and still want more. This is definitevely going to be another hit for Cindi Madsen and Entangled. A must read of 2013.

Review + Giveaway: All The Broken Pieces

All The Broken Pieces by Cindi Madsen

Publisher: Entangled Teen
Publication date: 12/11/2012

What if your life wasn’t your own?

Liv comes out of a coma with no memory of her past and two distinct, warring voices inside her head. Nothing, not even her reflection, seems familiar. As she stumbles through her junior year, the voices get louder, insisting she please the popular group while simultaneously despising them. But when Liv starts hanging around with Spencer, whose own mysterious past also has him on the fringe, life feels complete for the first time in, well, as long as she can remember.

Liv knows the details of the car accident that put her in the coma, but as the voices invade her dreams, and her dreams start feeling like memories, she and Spencer seek out answers. Yet the deeper they dig, the less things make sense. Can Liv rebuild the pieces of her broken past, when it means questioning not just who she is, but what she is?

Ok, if the cover doesn't pull you right away surely the blurb does. I mean look at that, the cover screams "I'm a good book!" and "I'm mysterious". It's both. And the blurb... yeah it conviced me in a nano second.

I loved this book. I read it in a day, and it was so worth it. A few times I found myself checking to be sure it wasn't a paranormal because I just had no idea what was going to happen next.

All The Broken Pieces has a little bit of everything. A bit of mystery, an easy to relate main character, an evil ex-girlfriend, a hot guy, and swoon worthy romance. Plus, the writing is exquisite, it traps you from page one.

White ceiling, a fuzzy face hovering over hers.
Gloved fingers against her skin.
A steady chirping noise mixed in with words she couldn’t quite catch hold of.

Liv wakes up without memory and suddenly, her parents move them to Arizona. While Liv tries to pretend everything is normal, the truth is, she has two different voices in her head... plus herself... talk about having your thoughts all over the place. But that's not all, whenever she mentions their previous life, her parents go all weird on her and Liv doesn't know what to do...

You see, the first couple of times I read about the voices, I thought, wow.. she's really messed up. But then, as the voices become more frecuent and their personalities more define, plus her parents atitude... yeah it turns creepy. And it's awesome.

Liv goes for her first time to public school and there she meets Spencer. Nerdy, loner, Spencer.
He and Liv start off... with some difficulties. He knows she'll get with the popular crowd and there is nowhere he wants to be farther away from. So he makes it harder for her, and in turn she lets him know. But she's drawn to him as much as he is to her. And together, they start living Liv's first everything.

Let me tell you, as much fun as it was to watch these two at first, their friendship and easy banter was probably one of my favourite things in the book. Cindi Madsen makes their relationship progress in a perfect pace, from strangers to friends, to a little bit more.
Under Spencer's hard exterior there's a sweet guy and under Liv's shy and awkward persona, there's a girl of her own.

But just as perfectly, the whys and whats of Liv's past life come slowly. Kepping you inside the book all the time. Making you change your mind about the possible outcomes with each new discovery.

Cindi Madsen has done a great job in this book.

More Dante Walker

So here it is... Mr. Walker for you

THE COLLECTOR: A DANTE WALKER NOVEL
Second excerpt release—January 10, 2013

Apparently, Charlie Cooper doesn’t have a car. But don’t worry, she tells me, we can walk to school from here.
Thrilling.
It’ll only take a few lifetimes, what with her mad limp and all.
Charlie carries a brown lunch bag in one hand, and every few minutes she digs Skittles out of her pocket and pops them into her mouth. I have no idea how this girl survives high school. She’s a disaster. It’s kind of tragic. Why is she still alive while I’m a walking corpse?
I can’t stop staring at her mouth. It’s the only part of her that’s passable yet it never stops moving.
“Don’t you think?” she asks.
I meet her eyes. “What?”
She nudges me with her shoulder like we’re long lost pals. “Someone’s been daydreaming. Want some sugar?” Her open palm is a stained Skittle mess.
“I’ll pass,” I answer. I’m not sure how this chick stays so tiny. She eats like a hippopotamus. Deep in my pocket, I rub circles over my lucky penny. I’m trying to figure out how to corrupt this girl, and she keeps asking me questions.
Focus, Dante.
I narrow my eyes and do what I’m trained to do. At first, her body is exactly the same, short and skinny, like a weed that needs plucking. But then it changes. The familiar warm yellow light crawls over her skin and flickers.
Ah, soul light. If I could drink it, I would. The color of a human soul is the same for everyone. It’s the seals that make the difference. I count how many she has, then clench my hands into fists. There are twelve seals on her soul. Only twelve. And they’re not even big. Great. I’ve come to collect Mother Teresa.
Still, the fact that she has even twelve seals means Boss Man has probably had Charlie watched for some time, or at least the Peachville area. Looking at her, his reasons are lost to me.
But it doesn’t matter. I’ve got to collect her either way. If I don’t and she dies, she’ll go to Judgment Day, and Boss Man obviously doesn’t want to take chances.
Inspecting her soul closer, I notice some of Charlie’s seals are dark blue, others green or orange or whatnot. Every collector can place seals, and you can tell who sealed a soul by the color. Most of hers are green. That’d be Patrick’s work. Naturally, I was the one to train him.
Her soul is clear of any of my red seals. But that won’t last for long cause Papa’s come to play. “How much further?” I ask.
“Just on the other side of this hill,” she chirps. “Like I was saying, I’m not sure if you’ll be able to enroll this late in the semester, but at least you can see the school and stuff.”
“I wouldn’t worry about it.”
Charlie glances at me, and her eyes crinkle at the corners. “I think you’re nice, Dante.”
“That’s cause I am nice.”
She looks ahead and walks in silence for almost a full minute. It suddenly feels strange to be near her and not hear her speak. The massive trees hang in a canopy over the road, stretching to greet one another. Their leaves are dead.
Toothy Jack O’ Lanterns sit on porches and watch us pass. One looks like it’s mocking me, so I flip it off. Charlie sees me. She throws her head back and laughs long and hard. The sound startles me.
I wonder what it would feel like to laugh like that—with complete abandonment.

So what did you guys think??
We need more, right?
*watches countdown* *sighs*

Review: Dead Running & Dying to Run

4:00 AM 2 Comments

Dead Running

Cassidy Christensen is running.
Running from the mercenaries who killed her parents.
Running from a scheming redhead intent on making her life miserable.
Running from painful memories that sabotage her dreams of happiness.

With two very tempting men competing for her attention, she hopes she'll finally have someone to run to, but can she trust either of them? When secrets from her past threaten her family, Cassidy decides to stop running and fight for her future.

I love a good Thriller, after all it was my first love with books when I was little. I know, I'm a weird kid.

Anyway, Dying to run has it all... Suspense, mystery, hot guys that confuse you, and a kick ass heroine. I found myself cheering for Cassie since page one.

Cassie started living with her grandma after her parents were murdered. Two years later we find Cassie running a marathon with her sister-in-law and that's when things get interesting. In there she meets 3 different characters, Dr. Tattoo, a supersexy plasticsurgeon who helps Cassie after the race, Damon (super sexy name, I know Diana and I can think of a few Damons we loveeee), another runner who will be in the St. George Marathon Cassie enters through a contest, and Hot Redhead who's kind of scary.

But besides all the new friends Cassie makes, she also finds a mutilated body and things get even more crazy.

Cassie is a lovely character, full of good intentions and very easy to relate. She has insecurieties. Her parents death still hunts her. And her family hides a secret that will change everything. She's also very honest, more than she'd like at times but is entertaining to read.
She's determined to prove to her family and herself that she can run the St. George Marathon and start her new bussiness.

Dr. Tattoo, AKA Jesse, comes and goes from her life when Cassie less expects it. He's always there when she needs him the most. But is not what Cassie is looking for, a big guy full of tattos with a bad boy attitude? He is not someone Nana would aprove, no matter how much he tunrs Cassie (and me!) into a puddle.

Damon is the total oposite. He's got golden boy writen all over his face, and maybe body. He's a complete gentleman, Nana aproved boyfriend material. He's sweet, caring and more important always there, without disappearing suddenly. Cassie never imagine someone like him would ever notice her.

Hot Redhead... She's a handfull. She wants Damon, kinda stalks Cassie and is always there to witnes cassie's worst moments. Yup. She's the perfect character that you love to hate.

Dead Running, is full of twists, Cassie is never sure who's telling the truth, who's the good guy or whats coming for her next.
But through all the heaviness of trying to scape from the people who murder her parents, She finds humor.
I love all the nicknames she gives people. She's stronger than she thinks and thougher than what the people after her think.
Even the bad guys where fun to read, I kinda like them too.
Dead Running is an excelent read.

*** The blurb for Dying to Run has spoilers, so you can just skip to the review, spoiler free =)**

Dying to Run

Cassidy Christensen wants to run.

Captured by the traffickers who killed her mother, her only hope is Dr. Tattoo, a man she loves but nobody trusts. When she finally gets a chance to run, someone else she cares about is taken. Running might be her only chance at survival, but she won’t allow another family member to be killed in her place.

This must-read sequel to Dead Running will have you laughing, biting your nails, and hoping for more.

This little sequel, had me at the edge of my sit all the time. After everything that went through, the slavers wont give up. She not only scaped them, she got one of them in jail. This is personal and they're determined to kill her.

Cassie finds herself capture by someone she thought she'd never see again, and faces the man she loves in the worst situation possible putting both of their lives at risk.

To survive, they must end with the slavers for good. But can Cassie accept and do whats right? Even when it's against the law? More important, can she accept the past and present of the man she loves? Or living will tear them appart?
And to top it off, she has to protect her family as well.

This is the perfect sequel for a great book, and the way the characters developed from one book to the other is great and believeable. This is a must read for everyone who reads Dead Running.

Hey Loves!

Today we bring you Steven Manchester, Author of Seven Months, you can check out our review here.

His new book is Goodnight Brian and we send us an excerpt to share with you guys!!

here's the book!

Fate was working against little Brian Mauretti. The food that was meant to nourish him was poisoning him instead, and the doctors said the damage was devastating and absolute. Fate had written off Brian. But fate didn’t count on a woman as determined as Brian’s grandmother, Angela DiMartino – who everyone knew as Mama. Loving her grandson with everything she had, Mama endeavored to battle fate. Fate had no idea what it was in for.

An emotional tale about the strength of family bonds, unconditional love, and the perseverance to do our best with the challenging gifts we receive, Goodnight, Brian is an uplifting tribute to what happens when giving up is not an option.

Excerpt:

Goodnight, Brian
(Italy excerpt)

Back at the cottage, Mama took three pills and washed them down with a tumbler of water. She limped to her chair and flopped down into it. She reached for her legs and tried to rub out the spikes that hammered into her brittle bones. The cancer felt like termites eating their way through an old, dry rotted shed. “Oh, Lord, please ease my pain tonight. It’s something awful.”
The Lawrence Welk rerun hadn’t even released its first wave of bubbles when both the pills and the prayer took effect. She breathed deeply and drifted off. Her snoring could have woken the dead…

Mama opened her eyes to a vast expanse of rich, rolling countryside dotted with cypress trees. In the distance, there were several grazing sheep, but the shepherd was nowhere in sight. Beyond them, at the outskirts of a silvery olive grove, she could barely make out a small house. It appeared to be made of stone. Or maybe it’s stucco? she wondered. It’s the color of melted creamsicles. On each side of it, there were small groves of trees. Fruit—fig and pear, she guessed. The sun was warm on her back and a slight breeze tickled her neck. It felt like the first day of spring; everything was green and rich and bursting with life. Shielding her eyes from the sun, she looked up at the bluest sky she’d ever seen. A few puffy clouds floated above. Besides the wind, only her breathing could be heard—slow, relaxed, and in perfect rhythm with the beat of her heart. Another scan of the hills revealed no human life. Yet, she felt anything but alone. She smiled.
Looking to her left, for the first time she noticed two straight rows of tall, green cypress trees lining a red clay roadway, the sun illuminating its natural path. Streams of light danced upon the path, auditioning for her attention. Without a thought, she turned and started for the path, an old Italian song coming to mind. “Viva Tuscany,” she started humming aloud, her smile growing wider.
As she followed the path, an old man dressed in soiled work clothes and a worn soft hat was whistling. He worked on his hands and knees, weeding out the base of an ancient stone wall. She approached. He looked up and smiled. His face was tan and weathered; his eyes, kind and aqua blue. "Ciao, Bella," he called out.
"Ciao, Senor," she replied.
He tipped his hat and smiled again. Without another word, he returned to his work and his whistling. Mama journeyed on.
At the end of the path, she came upon a field of daisies that looked like it went on forever. Butterflies and doves joined her as she walked, the breeze carrying them all toward something better. In a clearing, she stopped to watch a doe and her fawn prancing about. The scene brought so much joy that she laughed aloud. For whatever reason, it felt like a sign—though she couldn’t understand what it might be. She took three steps forward when she looked up again to discover that she’d just entered the outskirts of a small Italian village. “It’s Italy!” she gasped. “I’ve finally made it to Italy!” Afternoon had just turned to dusk.
Her young, healthy legs carried her on adrenaline and curiosity. At the edge of the small villa, she walked past an outdoor market that was closing for the day. Men and women packed up boxes of their baked goods—bread, cakes and biscuits. There was also an inventory of cheeses, cookbooks, coffee, kitchenware, pasta, oils, vinegars and wine. There was lots of red wine. “Buona Sera, Bella,” a copper-faced man called out.
“Buona Sera, Senior,” she replied and hurried toward the center of town, wondering why this was the second stranger to address her by her childhood nickname.
The tiny villa was a menagerie of cobblestone streets and intimate cafes. It was so wonderfully congested that it appeared each building was no more than an addition of the one before it. The smell of espresso filled the sweet spring air, challenged by the salami and cheese that hung in nearby shops. White, twinkling lights—strung from tree to tree—illuminated a smile on every face. Some waved at her as she walked by. She returned the gesture, oddly grateful that her presence had not gone unnoticed. The old cathedral called out to its faithful, its bells echoing through the granite square. As she approached the stone statues of angels and saints, two old women sang in Italian, a soft breeze carrying their notes toward the heavens. Love was all around—everywhere—and the world was perfect. She took a seat at the fountain in the middle of the square and scanned every inch that surrounded her. The architecture of the ancient provincial buildings was breathtaking, food peddlers and lovers protected beneath the terraces that overlooked the villa; balconies that were filled with terracotta pots of roses, wildflowers, and tiny pear trees. The faint scents of lemon and thyme wafted on the breeze. And then she heard the sound of water. She stood and looked back. It’s not the fountain, she knew. It’s the ocean—the tide coming in and out.
Drawn by its call, she hurried through the square and made her way down a narrow alley that led out to a long, wooden dock. She could see cobalt and turquoise dancing on everything. She squinted to see the Italian port filled with sailors mending fishing nets and singing about the day’s great catch. It’s everything I ever thought it would be…everything I ever told Brian about and more. With the taste of salt on her tongue, she licked her lips and picked up the pace. This feels like heaven…

Mama awakened and sat motionless in her gray chair. At peace, she looked around the room until disappointment crept into her heart. And then—in one sudden surge—the pain came rushing back. It felt like cleavers being tossed into her hips and legs. She cried out and struggled to free herself from the chair. “Where are those painkillers?” she asked aloud. “Dear God, where are they?”

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century by Rachel Harris

Published: September 11th 2012
Publisher: Entangled Publishing

On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother-to-be and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.

Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore.

Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?

Our thoughts...

Cat, a soon to be 16 year-old girl, travels to Italy with her dad and stepmom but on her first day meets a gypsy named Reyna who sends her to the 16th Century in her journey to find herself
and learn a mystery lesson.

“Reyna: Be sure to keep your mind open to the lessons ahead.”

My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century It’s a lovely story full of humor, a bit of mystery and sexy accents. Did we mention 16th century clothes? You have to admit, those are fun!

Cat is the daughter of a hollywood director and an actress but all she wants is the cameras to stay away, something hard to do when your stepmom wants to throw you the biggest sweet sixteen EVER.
Cat has lots of issues, she can’t trust anyone to get close to her for her and not her parents, she feels like she’s losing her dad to a new woman and is sick of feeling she’s always supposed to please everyone, but the 16th century is not as fun as it seems, and more than once Cat finds herself in problems with the vocabulary...

“Cat: Who’s that dude, Less?
Two verbal gaffes in one sentence—so much for my nailing the old-world gig.”

What I really liked about her was how easy to relate she was, how normal she felt. Cat has insecurities like everyone else, but at the same time there’s a little person trying to be free and find her place in the world, someone who wants to follow her dreams and step outside of her parents shadow and talent. Inside that shell she created to not get hurt or used there’s a girl who wants to know what it feels like to have a real friend, someone you can trust and someone who will be there for you no matter what. And maybe, she’s also looking for real love.

Lorenzo, in a way, is very similar to Cat.
He's an artist in a world and a family that doesn't get him. He's cocky, and sexy and he knows that as much as he knows the effect he has on girls. He’s a heartbreaker. And he wants Cat.
I love how romantic he is, maybe is the whole I'm-from-another-century vibe but he has a lot going on, the perfect good boy you want to take and keep hidden from the rest of the girls.

I also enjoyed the fact that there wasn't another love interest for her though the secondary characters are a great combination and add a lot for the Story. Her 16th century family is adorable, her aunt and cousin had me laughing through the book with her happy actitudes about everything.

I particularly liked The Ending, it has an original twist to this sort of stories that I wasn't expecting.

Rachel has done an AWESOME job in her debut novel bringing us characters that you'll remember. The writing is lovely and traps you right from the start. And it had me laughing out laud.

And the best news is there will be more!

The sequel is called "Rearview Mirror" and is set to come out in december of 2013 following Less’ (Cat’s causin) adventures.

About the author

As a teen, Rachel Harris threw raging parties that shook her parents’ walls and created
embarrassing fodder for future YA novels. As an adult, she reads and writes obsessively,
rehashes said embarrassing fodder, and dreams up characters who become her own grown up
version of imaginary friends.
When she’s not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, you can find her
homeschooling her two beautiful princesses, hanging out with her amazing husband, or taking a
hot bubble bath…next to a pile of chocolate.
MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY is her debut novel. She did have her own fantabulous
Sweet Sixteen in high school. Sadly, it wasn’t televised.

Barely Breathing (The Breathing Series 2) by Rebecca Donovan

*this is a review for the second book in the series so it might have spoilers for the first.*

Emma’s struggle with an abusive home life came to a heart pounding conclusion in the final chapters of Reason to Breathe. Now everyone in Weslyn knows Emma’s secret, but Carol can’t hurt Emma anymore. Some are still haunted by the horror of that night, and some must face the repercussions of their choices. Fans of Rebecca Donovan’s debut novel will discover there’s still much to learn about Emma’s life.

You have no idea how much I've wanted to read this book since I finished the first one.
The ending of Reason to Breathe was perfect, and yet it left me screaming for more.

After her aunt tried to kill her, Emma has a new begging. But her life is farfrom being perfect.
Emma's biological mother is back and they try to get to know each other again, but Rachel, Emma's mother, hasn't change that much. And Emma is still trying to come to terms with what happened before.

I love how Emma grows in this book. She's trying to learn to live again, trying to forget the horror she went through while living her aunt and uncle. And at the same time, she's still trapped in the past.
In this book Emma goes throgh a lot of changes, she makes a lot of mistakes in the way and her choices, while not always right, make so much more human to me.
I think Emma is one of my favourite characters, because of her flaws, her fears and her strenghs.

Evan is back, and gosh I fell in love with him all over again. Evan is always the supportive, sweet, caring boyfriend. But hwe also see a side of him that tries to protecs his feelings as well as Emma. We seehow much it hurts him when she's hurt.
Yeah, he makes you melt from page one.

Sara is back too, with all her happiness, her protectiveness and that Sara attitude I love so much in the first book.

There are some new characters, we see more of Sara and Evan's parents. There's a new girl in town and there's one character in particular that you'll love or hate. Or in my case, you'll love to hate and hate to love.

Jonathan is sexy. He's the guy mothers tell you to stay away and girl swoon over. He's dark, mysterious, fun and dangerous.
Jonathan and Emma share a connection since the day they meet, and from there things get only more and more complicated.
From what I read, some people hate him... Others like him better. What I can tell you is that Rebecca has dome an amazing job with this character. He's complex, he has secrets and he has the potencial of making you love him, and again hate him.
The mind of this character had me from the begining , and I'd love to see more of him.

The ending....
Well, lets say it didn't dissapoint.
As the first one, the ending was the perfect one for the story, honestly it fits perfect with the story.
Doesn't make it easier.

This book is an emotional roller coaster. I was in the edge of mi sit all the way through it and afterwards I just couldn't sleep. Right now, June can't get here soon enough so I can read the third and final book of this series!
