Amae Waters will never live up to her father's expectations--she's not a leader and she's not a soldier. Rather than live with his disappointment, she's left his realm and built a life for herself in Seattle, a mermaid blending in with humankind. Her mission? To prepare the oceans for the return of her people. But she's not sure she's cut out to accomplish that either.

A new predator has entered the waters of the Puget Sound, ravaging orcas and leaving their carcasses to wash ashore for humans to find. Whatever is killing them is beyond human understanding and Amae must find it before it irrevocably damages the complex balance of the ocean ecosystems.

But a greater danger lurks in the deep. Amae is done evading traps. She'll defend her territory and prove she needn't be a soldier to be a warrior or become the sacrifice used to end her people.

This Sea King Daughter won't back down.

Amae has made for herself a little quiet life in Seattle. She tries to keep the balance in the ecosystem, working alongside humans and keeping to herself. But when Orcas start to appear killed by the shores, she joins a team of researchers to find the real  killer and keep everyone safe.

Amae finds an unexpected ally in Keegan, a Selkie living in Puget Sound, the one who asks for help when he realises that whatever is killing the Orcas is not a normal predator. They join forces, reclutantly.

Amae is such a powerfull character. Not only in her magic but her spirit. She's not a warrior, that's true but she's a caretaker and she will do everything to protect those who live in her territory. She will also do everything to make her father proud and I felt so bad for her! She's obviously still struggling to come to terms with her exile.

Siren's Calling is a beautiful story of growing up and accepting who you are. Amae learns to love her life a bit more through the book and gains more than one unexpected friend.

Piper J Drake delivers a book full of mistery, excitment and a great pace that keeps the reader engaged through the whole book.

The Sea King's Daughters books are captivating and each takes you deeper into their world and right in the middle of a battle between the  siren's and the Deep Wellers.

Excerpt from Siren’s Calling

I tasted blood in the water.
Changing course with a flick of my tail, I swam against the fast-moving ocean current toward the source. There were no vibrations in the water to indicate the thrashing of a living thing in distress and the seas were quieter than usual. Not surprising, with this much blood carried on the currents. Predators would be drawn to it and prey would be wise to leave the area or hide.
Curious, I’d come to investigate, thinking one of the killer whale pods had taken a baleen whale. It wasn’t unheard of, though it didn’t happen often. A big kill like that would draw plenty of ocean denizens, and I hadn’t tasted whale in a long time. I wouldn’t kill one, not when I couldn't finish consuming it myself and not when so many whale species were endangered, but I wouldn’t let it go to waste, either.
When I didn’t find anything in open water, I’d pulled myself up onto the rocky outcropping between islands and found it. The body. But it wasn’t a humpback or gray whale, not a mink or fin whale, either. It was an orca, a killer whale, and that didn’t make any kind of sense.
Before I could take a closer look, the sound of a powerful motor cut through the morning calls of seabirds. Harbor seals lifted their heads and looked around from where they lay on another rock outcropping. A lone Steller sea lion grunted and scratched his head with a huge hind flipper. He turned to stare at me and I met his gaze, unconcerned. He was a prime specimen of a bull, the largest I’d ever encountered, but he posed no threat to me.
The waves slapped against the rocks around my tail fin in a changed cadence. A boat was approaching, and with it, humans. They were probably whale watching, which meant every one of them would be on the lookout for wildlife. Most of them would have binoculars. I couldn’t let them see me in this form.
I dove back into the water, darting through forests of kelp and berating myself for lingering past dawn. There was too much light and I had to dive deep to be sure nothing on the surface caught sight of even a tail flick from me.
As far as humans were concerned, I didn’t exist. I was a myth, a fairy tale.
If they saw me, they might not even believe what they’d seen. In their dreams or after too many drinks, they might whisper, “Mermaid.”
And they’d be right.

Luminosity Review

Published: November 2012
Publisher: Entangled Teen

My name is Beatrice. When I was born, I was blessed with the Sight. I was immediately removed from my parents and enrolled in the Institution. At the age of twelve, I had my first true vision, earning my raven’s wings. And when I turned seventeen, one of my visions came true. Things haven’t been the same since.

The Institution depends on me to keep the City safe from our enemy, the Dreamcatchers, but I’m finding it harder to do while keeping a secret from everyone, including my best friend Gabe. It is a secret that could put us all in danger. A secret that could kill me and everyone close to me.

But the enemy has been coming to me in my dreams, and I think I’m falling in love with him. He says they’re coming. He says they’re angry. And I think I’ve already helped them win.

Our Thoughts....

Tell me about the plot...

After a war that almost destroy the planet, the Seers are back and they protect the city and it's Citizens. That's how they world now works, the Seers live separeted from the Citizens in the Institution and they must keep the Dreamcatchers away and prevent them from kiling all the Citizens.

Beatrice, Bea, is probably the best of her class, her vision are clear and especific and they become true. But the Institution keeps a lot of secrets, and most Seers aren't allowed to know.
Bea needs to understand what's going on inside the Institution in order to save those she cares about.
But The Keeper, the leader of the Seers, and her Raven are watching, always Watching her every move, and maybe... The Keeper isn't very happy with what she's seeing.
Female Main Character

Bea is a very intriguing character. At first, she's like the rest of them, used t living inside the Institution and watching the City through tinted windows. But suddenly her Visions start becoming true and she starts having Dreams of a blonde boy named Echo. The problem is, Echo is a Dreamcatcher and she likes him. After meeting Echo, Bea starts having doubts about all the things they were taught to believe.

Bea is a strong character. She fights for her friends and t make sur they're safe but with all the secrets she doesn't know who to trust.
What about the hotties of the book?

Echo and Gabe...

Echo is calmed and collected. He's mysterious. He's the blonde Dreamcatcher that wants to save his people from a pest that's killing them.  Echo tries to guide Bea, he wants her help but he also knows a lot of things she doesn't.
Gabe is Bea's best friends. They've known each other since they were little, and have always been there for each other. But now tha Bea has been keeping secrets from him, he's not exactly happy.

What was the best part?

I love reading about the ins and out of the Institution and Dreamcatchers. To see how much control the Institution had over all of the Seers and Citizens.

What you didn’t like about the book?

I think they were some things that were very predictable, not just for this book but for the future... we'll have to wait and see.

Anything else I should know about this?

Yes! This is the first book in the Raven Chronicles. And the ending, yeah it makes you wanna have the second book right now.

I'm really looking foward to the rest of the story and learning what happens to all this lovelies characters.
