Undercover - Review

Undercover (Out of Line #7) by Jen McLaughlin
Published: August 7th, 2018

Joseph Hernandez has wanted Marie since he first saw her outside her college dorm. He tried to make a move on her back then, but she made it very clear she wasn’t interested. It's been ten years since that kiss, and she’s done nothing but push him away ever since, so the last thing he wants to do is crawl to her on his knees to ask her for her help in an undercover investigation.

Marie was still a girl when Joseph scared her by making her…well, feel. At the time she wasn’t ready for the kind of things a guy like him brought out in a girl, but now she’s ready to open herself up to the possibility that her friends might have been right all this time. When Joseph asks her for a favor, she realizes now is the time to go after what she’s always been too afraid to admit she wanted…Joseph as hers.

I've been waiting SO LONG to read this story and I was so exited when it finally came out! And guys! It didn't disapoint! It was as perfect as I imagine and I'm SO HAPPY!

So this this book number 7 of the Out Of Line Novels, and while this is about Joseph and Marie and before they were secondary characters, I feel like if you want to really enjoy their relationship and see how they end up here, you must read the other books. They may be secondary there but we really see their relationship grow, bit by bit in the fringes and is totally worth it (Plus, you know, more awesome books)

Joseph has a special case for his boss, he needs to get closer to a possible criminal without no one knowing and while he's trying to figure out how to do this alone, he learns that Marie is going to be at the same convention, same hotel and is invited to a private party the suspect is giving so he does the one thing he never thought he would do: ask her for a favor.
Marie is ready for a change. To stop protecting herself and dating only idiots so she doesn't get her heart broken. This time she's ready for something real and Joseph might be the right step in that direction.

Like I said, I loved how they came together. Their fears, their reasons to hold back felt real and while I would have love to see them together sooner, I think the waiting was not just worth it but made it perfect, they weren't ready before.

Jen Mclaughling balances the deep emotions and explosive chemestry perfectly. The setting gives them the freedom to explore this new side of their relationship without worriying about the real world and when she brings them back is like crashing through glass. The way they are suddenly so expossed but still fighting had me glued to the book, wondering what would happen next.

Undercover is the perfect ending for a story that has been brewing over the years on the sidelines and a chemestry that has been burning to a boiling point.
