No more of a coherent thought other than she’d never been kissed like this before went through Jane’s mind. She should slap him, push him away, at the very least demand to be put back on her own feet and a good measure of space put between them.

But she did none of those things. Instead, she found herself winding her arms around his neck, parting her lips and sighing against his demanding lips. The spicy-salty scent of him surrounded her, doing something wild to her senses. Suddenly every part of her felt alive with a tingling fire that only seemed ready to burn hotter.

Parting her lips seemed to be a wicked invitation, for as soon as she had done it, his devious tongue swept along the open seam causing her to gasp.

Oh, sweet heavens, but that felt even more divine. Just that little lick sent a jolt rushing through her. And before she could catch her wits from it, he’d done it again, and again, and then her own tongue was reaching forward to test it out. She touched the tip of her tongue to his and could have been struck by lightning, so massive was the force of current that went rushing through her.

This was wicked, oh, so very wicked. And yet, she couldn’t make herself stop.

And did she have to? She’d given herself to this man. Had agreed to share his bed in exchange for him vowing she was his, a marriage that may end up being a total sham for all she knew. But that didn’t change the fact that she’d agreed to it, that in order to be saved from Livingstone, to keep the rightful king safe, she had invited this pirate to lay claim to her.

Lay claim to her, he was. There could be no doubt about it, the way he owned her body at that moment. She couldn’t move. He had her completely enthralled. Completely captivated. Intoxicated.

It was he who pulled away first. He who stared into her bemused eyes with a satisfied expression that she would have found overly irritating if she wasn’t so busy trying to find her bearings.

Shaw set her down on her feet and grinned at her as though he’d plucked a tart straight from her fingers and devoured it.

“I hope that satisfies your need,” she murmured, “for sealing deals.”

He chuckled then, a sound that caressed her nerves, but did very little in the way of calming her. In fact, it did quite the opposite. She licked her lips, trying to avoid looking at his mouth as she wanted him to very much kiss her once more. He might have set her down on her feet, but she was barely standing on her own. Every line in her body reached for him, wanting more of what he’d just given her.

“That was just a taste, love, of what satisfies, but not nearly enough.”

“Shall we do it again then?” she asked in challenge, then felt the heat rush to her face for having spoken so boldly.

Shaw’s darkened gaze swept over her, bold and devilish, and right along with it her body quivered. He wanted her. And she… wanted him.

“Oh, sweet Jane, we shall do it again many more times.”

Banging from the kitchen has me turning in the direction of the wall oven. The brunette shoves the tin of crab cakes into the center, shiny with the sauce she basted them with.
No sooner than she sets the timer and takes off her oven mitt than Kirk Watson arrives. “Hey, sweet thing. How about you fix me a plate?”
How about I punch you in the head, Kirk?
I glare in his direction. She’s the only non-Caucasian woman in the immediate vicinity. I’m not trying to be a dick and assume he’s racist, I’ve just known him long enough to know that’s what he is. Not to mention, she’s in a cocktail dress or whatever the fuck, not dressed in a black shirt and pants like the caterers Becca hired.
Her small chin juts slightly forward. “I’m sorry, sir,” she says. “I don’t work here, I was just helping someone out.”
Kirk is already drunk and way past horny. He leans his arm against the overhead counter and gives her the kind of once-over that should send her to the nearest shower to wash his filth clean. “Then how about I buy you a drink?”
“It’s my understanding the drinks are free,” she tells him.
He sidesteps in front of her when she tries to walk away, blocking her. “Come on, sweetie. I’m just trying to be nice.”
I don’t think things through. I storm in from the opposite side and from one blink to the next, I’m suddenly there.
The brunette takes a step back and into me, my presence startling her and making her jump. “Back off, Kirk. She’s with me.”
Maybe I shouldn’t have said what I did, but Kirk’s the type who doesn’t know when to quit unless there’s a bigger man there to make him.
Tonight, that bigger man is me. He swipes his shaved head, offering me a slick smile that turns challenging real quick. “Is that right?”
“Damn straight.” I think the brunette looks up at me, but I’m too busy looking at Kirk. Yeah, he’s drunk, and ready to take a swing. The protective side of me kicks in. I grasp my supposed damsel in distress by the elbow and gently guide her behind me.
His gaze trails to her briefly before returning to me. “I thought you were hard up.”
“Nah,” I say, not wanting to give this idiot any amount of satisfaction. “Onto bigger and better as you can see.”
“Or tinier and cuter?” he offers.
“Watch your mouth,” I fire back, knowing he’s not complimenting her, but rather trying to rile me. “Like I said, she’s with me.”
I clench my fists, causing my knuckles to crack. I don’t think he hears the crunch, not over the music and escalating clamor of voices. He does see me, though. Whatever he catches in my hardening features is enough to make him back down. Smart man, at least when it comes to a fight. He knows I can take a hit, and give one a hell of a lot harder.
He grunts and slinks away, like he did me a favor by letting me off and not the other way around. I keep him in my sights. By the time he reaches the door leading out to the foyer, he perks up, likely having spotted the next woman he’ll approach.
I wait until he disappears into the next room before turning back to the brunette. “Ma’am,” I say, tilting my chin.
I mean to step away and back in the direction of my beer. One drink and out, right? Sounded good in theory except the moment I shift my weight to walk away, her smile holds me in place.
It’s not the kind of smile that promises anything close to what the bartender offered, nor is it teasing and daring like the half-dozen cheerleaders Becca introduced me to flashed. It simply is, fragile like the first snowflakes that fall in winter, and shy like a young woman at her first dance, hoping no one notices she’s not dressed like the rest.
I like what she’s wearing. She looks nice to look nice, not to impress or show off. And someone as pretty as her, well, she doesn’t need to be so shy.
Her lips are glazed in a soft pink like her dress, not overly done, just enough to give them a shine and glisten her light eyes. “Thank you,” she says, quietly. “For helping me out.”
“You’re welcome.”
I take a step in the direction of the bar, eyeing my beer like it’s waiting for me to return. But the step feels unusually heavy and I think my friend the beer can wait.
I turn slowly and offer this little thing with the pretty eyes and the soft smile my hand. It shouldn’t seem like such a big deal or much of an effort, but it’s a little of each. Maybe for both of us. “I’m Landon.”
She takes my hand. I watch it as it disappears within my grasp.

“Hi, Landon,” she replies quietly. “I’m Luci.”

Ty’s Heart (A California Cowboys Novel) by Selena Laurence
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: October 24, 2017
Length: 60,000 words

She's come back to steal his heart.

Ty Jenkins is a good man. For five long years he's devoted his life to his young daughter, Katie, giving everything he's got to make sure she won't miss the one thing she can't have--a mother. When that very woman blows back into town, Ty's world is turned upside down. He'd do anything to care for Katie, but caring for her gets complicated when he still has feelings for the woman who abandoned them both.

Jodi Morgan has made a lot of mistakes in her life, and the biggest one of all was giving up her infant daughter the day she was born. But now she's back in Big Sur, California, determined to be there for her girl however she can. What Jodi didn't count on was the way she feels about Katie's father. Between his devotion to Katie and his work-honed body, Ty is one hell of an attractive package.

As two parents begin a journey to do what's best for their child, they rediscover the feelings they once had for one another. Can Ty trust Jodi not to leave again? Has she come to be part of Katie's future? Or will she steal his heart?

Find out more at: Goodreads

Excerpt:
Ty stood and watched her as she gazed out at the ocean beyond the railing of the deck. He remembered the first time he’d laid eyes on her almost six years ago. She’d been standing behind the counter of his aunt’s coffee shop, all that pale blonde hair piled in a mess on top of her head. Her cornflower-blue eyes—eyes he knew as well as his own now—sparkled when she smiled at customers, and he’d felt it immediately. As if a bolt of lightning had struck him, he’d wanted that girl. He’d wanted that sparkle and glow to be for him.
And for a brief time, it was.
But now, as he quietly watched her, none of the sparkle was there anymore. None of the vibrancy that had been so magnetic when they’d known each other earlier. No, Jodi was different. He could see it in the set of her shoulders, the way she held her arms so tight against her body. Then she turned and looked at him, and it was in her eyes. It was breath stealing, the sorrow he saw there, but he steeled himself against it. Closed himself off and let a layer of armor wind around his heart and his body. Because no matter how sad she might be, she was here to upend his life, to try to take the single most important thing he had, and even if it made her sad for the rest of her life, he wasn’t about to give her what she wanted.
            Katie wasn’t negotiable.
“You came,” she said, giving him a small smile as she turned more fully, the thin embroidered cotton dress she wore blowing around her thighs in the breeze.
Her hair was still that same shade of platinum it had always been—so rare for an adult to be that blonde naturally, but Jodi looked like the fae out of some Nordic fairy tale, all fair skin, white-blonde hair, and pale blue eyes. She was tall at five ten, he was taller at six two, and she was strong—long legs, wide shoulders, narrow hips—but buxom as well, a Viking warrior princess.
He gave himself a little shake, remembering that if she wasn’t exactly the enemy now, she sure as hell wasn’t his friend.
“Surely you didn’t expect me to find out you were in town and just ignore it?”

Blog tour + Giveaway: Nailed It

9:00 AM 0 Comments

Nailed It by Cindi Madsen
Publisher: Entangled Select Collection
Published: October 23rd, 2017

I'm Ivy Clarke. Bartender, best friend, and disbeliever in love.

And now I'm in over my head, trying to flip a house all by myself.
Thanks, HGTV.

I'm not too proud to admit I need some help. Too bad the only one who can help me is the same man I want to throw out this house's second-story window.

Jackson Gamble and I can't be in the same room together for more than a minute without devolving into a sparring match.

Except for that one time…

But enough about that. Jackson's looking for forever, and I don't believe in love, remember?
Get in. Renovate. Get out. Keep my heart firmly in tact.

Because it's much easier to fix up a house than a broken heart.

Full of humor and dripping with delicious tension, Nailed It proves that every heart can be ready for a little rehabilitation, if only you're willing to open it up.

Ivy is the kind of girl who runs from relationships. Her chilhood was filled with different men while her mother tried to find "the one" and so Ivy is sure such a thing doesn't exist. She has rules and ways to make sure her heart stays intact, After all, she saw her mother touch bottom one to many times and the one friendship and Ivy's constant was lost when Dixie, her mother's best friend, started dating one of her mother exes.

Jackson is Ivy's best friends' brother. That is problem #1. Savannah was clear to leave her brother alone and Ivy can't risk losing her too. But the chemestry and attraction between the two is undenialable and she just can't let him go. Especially when Jackson is so determined to have her.

I really enjoyed the love between them. When we start, Ivy and Jackson had a fling, a few months back that ended badly and now things are rocky at best, but when Ivy decides to flip her chilhood house, Jackson comes to help.
This was kind of a tug war, Jackson pushes for more while Ivy tries to run. But he's the only men she has ever truly rely on and that scares her so much.

Cindi Madsen did a great job at portraying the house, I could see it, being transformed step by step while reading and it was agreat way to see how Ivy and Jackson relationship progressed to
Something I didn't like was how Jackson tried to fix her in a way. Maybe because Ivy felt it that way I felt it too but at some points I did got the impression he was pushing just to see if he could.

Nailed it is a great love story, I don't know if I'd call it a second chance type of book though. It full of funny moments (Cindi's trademark) and a heroin that needs some help but is easy to relate too. Jackson is a dream guy, not only can fix a house he's sweet and caring. I loved reading how Ivy found herself.

Excerpt

My hand glistened in the low light, the sheen of blood coating my palm reflected off the light fixtures in the basement of the Compound. I wrapped my arms around my shivering body and tried to ignore the blood now seeping through the thin cotton of my shirt. It was sticky, cold, and black.
Not human blood, I reminded myself.
The moment when I’d found Daniel’s body flashed through my mind. The feeling of cold and congealing blood seeping into my jeans still haunted me. I shuddered.
This time, it wasn’t innocent blood coating my hands.
I looked down at Irina’s undead heart inches away from my booted feet. I’d dropped it.
Glaring down, anger fueled my temptation to kick it.
I refrained just barely.
Needing to look away, I turned to Irina’s motionless form in the rogue cage. Her alabaster skin was starting to sink in on itself and her vibrant red hair seemed to have dulled in color though I knew that wasn’t actually possible.
I looked back to the undead heart beside me, satisfaction filled me. She’d deserved to die. She’d killed him, an innocent seven-year-old boy.
Blackened blood seemed to ooze out of the dead organ and temptation finally won out as I nudged the heart with my boot none too gently. A dark smear of thick liquid darkened the black leather. Definitely not a figment of my imagination, not that I wanted it to be.
Things just weren’t adding up.
I tried to shake the fog from my mind.
“What happened after you were abducted?” Declan’s voice called out.
I whirled around to see him cloaked in shadows. Shit, I’d forgotten he was in the room.
I dug my fingernails into the palms of my hands. I didn’t want to think about that. I didn’t want to remember my body strapped down to a cold metal table, needles in my veins and machines blaring in my ears. The sterile scent of antiseptic had filled the room and I’d been connected to Irina and Aiden through a series of IV tubes. Her vampiric blood sustaining me while Aiden used his telekinesis to try and rip my fire from me.
My mother had just stood there and watched.
My entire body began to vibrate beneath the surface of my skin and I scrubbed my hand over my face.
What the hell had happened?
I looked at Declan and could only shake my head.
My memories were muddled. Noah Thorne, the South Atlantic Alpha had kidnapped me, the bastard, and he’d handed me over to my mother. My life was so fucked up.
I rubbed my hand over my neck, searching for the point where the syringe had punctured my skin but all I felt were twin scars slightly raised where my neck met my shoulders. Remnants of Declan’s bite when he’d mate claimed me.
I didn’t need to think about that, not right now.
