Review: The Resilent One by Cami Checketts

The Resilient One
by Cami Checketts

Alyssa Armsworth, a world-renowned photographer, has no intentions of honoring the Billionaire Bride Pact she made as a teenager to avoid getting her bra hung from the camp flagpole. Marriage is the last thing on her to-do list and when her father forces his wealthy friends on her, she runs to Maui.

She plans to lay low, take some great pictures, and eat fresh fish--until Beckham Taylor arrives. Stuck in the same hotel and spending days on the white sand with the handsome ex-NHL star wouldn't be all that bad except Alyssa's done something in the past that Beckham could never forgive. Before she can confess, her misdeeds are thrust onto the front cover of a well-known magazine. Alyssa must overcome her fears or live without Beckham.

Available now for only $2.99 - Amazon or free for Prime and KOLL members.

The Resilent One is about Alyssa, a world-known photographer who lives in Hawaii. She is a free spirit with a complicated history, a controling father and bad choices in men. So the single life and a little island is her piece of hevean, until her best friend ask for a little favor.

Beckham Taylor has it all, a nice family with nephews he adores, a big business and a charity that fills his heart. Despite the tragedy that struck him, he build himself a good life.

When the two of them end up in the same cozy hotel they'll try to build a relationship and overcome their fears.

This book is everything you would expect from a short and sweet love story. Both characters are relatable and you can see how much they want this to work and how scared they are by it at some point. Cami Checketts portraits a fragile Alyssa who at the same time is strong in other aereas and that makes her a real character. She writes the passions of these two in such a good way that makes you want to read more about it and them and how the simple things in life makes them happy.

I loved how Alyssa and Beck recognise something in each other instantly but go slowly, testing the water and feeling comfortable first in every situation.
That said, I would have loved to see more about the pact and what led to a group of teens in a camp to make such a deal. There is almost no information about it and I guess there will be more in the other books in the series but as you can read them as stand alones AND there is only one other member of the pact introduced, I think it should be explained in more detail what went down in that camp and why this ladies are determined to fullfil it.

On a side note, Alyssa's granny is by far the best character in the book and if had to chose a secondary character to read a spin off book it would be her! That lady cracked me up through the entire book.

If you are looking for a sweet love story with just a touch of drama and a beautiful lansdscape this a the book for you. And stay tuned for the other girls of the pact !

  1. Thank you for the review! That is a great point about the pact. The Passionate One has a lot more about it, but I'll have to remember to include more in the third book as they do all stand alone. I really appreciate you taking the time to read and review and am so glad you loved Granny!
    Warmest wishes,
    Cami
