He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?
Allow me a minute to gather my thoughts...
This book should come with a sign that reads: “Please leave your previous ideas at the door”.
Do you remember that feeling when you discovered Santa wasn't real and that it was your parents all along? Yeah.. something like that but with a much happy ending is the best way to describe this book.
Obsession has the perfect combination of sexy aliens, arrogant males, a feisty girl who won’t back down and lots of sarcasm and humor mixed with a serious dose of hotness.
This is the first adult book I read by Jennifer and the way the sexy scenes are written is perfect and tasteful. I’m really looking forward to read of her in this genre now.
Serena had a normal existence, she was a counselor at a high school, her friend Mel was the crazy one. But after Mel is murder for watching a couple of Luxen arguing, Serena’s definition of crazy and normal won’t be the same.
Hunter works for the DOD. He stays away from a war he doesn't believe in and he gets to kill Luxen. His life was pretty good. Until the DOD decides that whatever Mel heard she must have told Serena, and so now is Hunter’s job to keep her safe and find out what she knows.
“I wasn't sure what to be more freaked out about in this whole fucked-up situation - that Light-Bulb wanted to kill me? Or that he was a Light Bulb? Or that Hunter could apparently shadow poof and put his hand inside someone?” - Serena Cross, Obsession
I can’t tell you how fitting this title is. I was hooked from page one and sleeping was something that suddenly wasn't very important.
From the moment Hunter and Serena meet you can feel the tension between them. They bring the best and worst of each other to light.
Hunter is the most arrogant and cocky character I've read in a while, and somehow on him it fits him perfectly. He’s good and he knows it. He does what he wants and when he wants.
He doesn't do human things at all.
Serena is very stubborn, sometimes going against Hunter just for the fun of it. And yeah it was way too fun to read these two going back and forth. She’s also very brave.
I don’t care what aliens say about human emotion and how much better than us they are. This girl right here proves that we humans rock and our emotions are the best!
But between all the flirting and verbal wars, Hunter and Serena face a major problem. Hunter gets hungry in more than one way and only one or two of them are fun. Hunter’s darker side wants to eat Serena and well that doesn’t go well. He’s a dangerous creature, a predator by nature and there’s something incredibly sexy about being so close to that. He’s raw power and hunger while Serena is warmth and calmness.
I really really loved this book. Hunter and Serena are great characters on their own, but together they are explosive. The chemistry is excellent and even if you haven’t read the lux series, the entire Luxen world is explained. (probably you’ll see the Luxen as the bad guys here)
The development of Hunter and Serena is slow and perfectly pace with the story. Is believable Hunter is far from perfect at the beginning but you learn what makes him tick and he’ll do anything to make sure what’s his is safe.
Jennifer did an excellent job bringing us the other side of the story in this alien war. Reading how the Arum feel and why they work with the DOD was a real shocker.
Who are the good guys again???
Obsession will have you laughing one moment and at the edge of your seat in the next. The Hotness level is pretty high too.
It will also turn everything upside down and give you every kind of withdrawal known to human race.
