A fresh start...
It’s been three years since Serena King learned to say no—no to the boys that were a desperate cry for help, no to the extra weight she put on in self defense, and most of all no to the abuse that has haunted her since she was fifteen. Now a sophomore in college, all she wants is to be normal. The last thing she expects is a guy who can make her want... make her want everything.
A new guy...
Alex Blackthorn is a bundle of contradictions, a sexy dark haired badness who goes slow... deliciously slow. And despite the iron will that has gotten her through the last few years, Serena finds herself unable to ignore the heat that sizzles between them whenever they’re together.
A dark past...
Serena never thought she could be involved in a relationship, but Alex makes her long for things she thought were out of her reach forever. When he finds out her secret... when he finds out what she did to keep herself sane... will he still want her, or he will treat her just like everyone else?
And Alex has a secret of his own.
Recommended for mature readers aged 17+ due to language and sexual content.
Let me fangirl a little here.
Kate Lauren's Love Me For Me, blew me away. The story is raw, emotional, powerful and sweet, all in a great package of a little book.
Serena's life in her teens wasn't easy and she did a lot of things she's not proud of, but now 21 and in college she's a new person, a healthy girl who wants a quiet life. That is until she meets Alex one day when they both got late to class.
Alex is... perfect. His life wasn't easy but he learned to live through that and overcome his past. He became stronger after his wounds and found the person who he really is.
I got my tattoos to hide my scars. After I did, I wished I hadn't. Wounds leave scars. But scars show you survived.
He's not just full of awesome advised, but he has the looks that go with it: Football player body, dark hair and dark blue eyes. And of course tattoos. (By now, you probably know I can't resist tattoos) And the sense of humor too.
What I really loved about Alex, is that while he doesn't know what really happened to Serena, he knows what she needs, he can give her the space she needs to slowly let him in.
And come on, the guy volunteers at an animal shelter to play with puppies! ANND Cooks! I'm pretty sure he a chance at winning book boyfriend of the year.
Serena is a great character. She's determined to leave her past behind but she doesn't know how to really do it. I think her strength is in the way she managed to keep going through everything that happened to her. And how, even when it scared her to death, she took a chance at something beautiful.
The relationship between Alex and Serena is really emotional. The little things make both of them close off to hide their past, but slowly they open up to each other and together they can really heal.
Love Me For Me also introduces us to Kaylee and Maddie, Serena's friends. Kaylee knows from living with Serena that she has secrets, but as we learn later she has her own set of secrets so she understands how hard it can be to trust in someone with them.
Maddie on the other hand, learns about Serena's past through an ex boyfriend in common. At this part,I think it really showed how Serena grows in the book when she's able to tell Maddie that some things she was told were probably true.
The next two books in the series are Kaylee and Maddie's stories, and I really can't wait to read them.
