The Violet Fox by Clare Marshall
Published by Faery Ink Press

Run.

That’s what instinct told me.

But in order to save the secrets of my people
and to protect my brother
I have to become the enemy.

This is the first book in a series. And let me tell you that is a SUPER AWESOME book.

Kiera a.k.a. The Violet Fox is a fifteen year old Freetor. Freetor live underground, cast away by the Marlenians who ruled the land. Why are they underground? Because they lost the war against the Holy One and because they have magic (at least some of them do) that is seen as an evil thing.
Kiera joined the fighters when she was only six years old along with her older brother Rordan. The fighters go the surface to steal food to survive.

You're probably wondering why she's called the Violet Fox, well let me tell you: she's awesome. That's why! She runs around the surface dress with a cape and a mask and drives the royal guard nuts, very Robin Hood like of her to help her people.

Kiera is chosen to get back a VERY important item for the Freetors, she needs to find the Alestar tome before the Marlenians lears the secret top Freetor Magic and kill them all. For that, she must take the place of a Marlenian Princess from a far away land. And that's just when the fun really begins!!

Kiera is a very witty character, full of life and longing for the sun. She wants to be free. She wants to revenge her parents murder by the Marlenians. She wants to be able to feed her people.
She's immortal to her eyes. She's the Violet Fox, they will never catch her.
But once she gets to the castle, all she's known and all she thought she knew about the marlenians is thrown out of the window.

Rordan, Kiera's brother, was probably my fav character. He's so protective of her. He had to grow up fast after their parents death in order to take care of them both. He wants the same: to see his people free but he goes around it differently.

While Kiera has that idealist view of how things should be, that is perfectly normal for her age; Rordan is more of the kind who thinks things through and doesn't just jump to action.
I loved them both for their particular caracteristics and they really complemented each other well.

Another very important character is Prince Keegan, heir to the Marlenian throne. He's Prince Charming. Honestly, he's kinda perfect. I think it was one of the hardest charcaters for me to understand, he loves his people and wants nothing more than protect them for the Freetors, but at the same time he doesn't completely agree with the way his ancestors treated the Freetors and casted them down.
Keegan is compeltely took over by Kiera while she's in the castle. They both feel much free around each other.

What I loved the most about the book was the way Kiera finds her place in the world. The dynamic between Rordan and her was perfect, they were both so protective of each other. But overall, the secrets and suspense was the best by far. The book has lots of twist and turns that I never saw coming , and I absolutely loved it. Kiera is in a world were people have their own agenda and she has to learn who to trust on the go. What she and Keegan have is lovely, and I'm  really looking foward to read the second book and learn how the story goes.
