Tess is finally safe from the reach of the Council, now that she is living in the Middlelands with the rebel Isolationists. With James having returned to Templeton, she easily falls back into her friendship with Henry, though her newfound knowledge of Robert’s chosen one status still stings. Even surrounded by people, Tess has never felt more alone. So she’s thrilled when James returns to the settlement, demanding to see Tess — until she finds out that it’s because her sister, Louisa, has been recruited into Tess’s old position at Templeton, and that the dangerously sadistic chosen one George has taken an interest in her.

About Tiffany

Tiffany Truitt was born in Peoria, Illinois. A self-proclaimed Navy brat, Tiffany spent most of her childhood living in Virginia, but don’t call her a Southerner. She also spent a few years living in Cuba. Since her time on the island of  one McDonald's and Banana Rats (don't ask) she has been obsessed with traveling. Tiffany recently added China to her list of travels (hello inspiration for a new book).

Besides traveling, Tiffany has always been an avid reader. The earliest books she remembers reading belong to The Little House on the Prairie Series. First book she read in one day? Little Woman(5th grade). First author she fell in love with? Jane Austen in middle school. Tiffany spent most of her high school and college career as a literary snob. She refused to read anything considered “low brow” or outside the “classics.”
Tiffany began teaching middle school in 2006. Her students introduced her to the wide, wonderful world of Young Adult literature. Today, Tiffany embraces popular Young Adult literature and uses it in her classroom. Touch Review + Giveaway!

2:55 AM 0 Comments
Today we have a review plus a giveaway for you so be sure to get to the end of the post!
Touch (Denazen #1)By Jus AccardoPublished November 1st 2011Entangled Publishing

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

It makes me want to read it...

Tell me about the plot...

Deznee, or Dez as most people call her, is a 17-year-old girl that just loves to get an adrenaline rush and piss of her father at every opportunity she can get. And she gets a good one: She finds a boy on her way home and decides to show him to her father.
But this isn’t any boy she just meet, he’s... well weird. He seems fascinated and confused by normal things, and Dez’s father? They seem to be old friends.

In one night, Dez learns that her father has lots of secrets, his job isn’t what she thought and the weird boy that seemed like harmless fun, is deadly. For real.

Dez finds herself in the middle of a battle between a secret organization: Denazen Corporation, and a secret underground group of people with secret abilities: The Sixes.
Denazen wants his most powerful weapon, Kale, back; but the sixes want to be free.

Who can they trust when everyone has a secret of their own? Can Dez confess her secret? How far Kale is willing to go to protect her?

“Things had gone from really weird to
I-fell-down-the-rabbit-hole surreal.”
Touch - Jus Accardo

Female Main Character

Dez is one of my favorites females characters. She isn’t your typical lonely, smart and bookish girl. Dez likes to party. Everyone knows her and love to watch her do dangerous stunts. She isn’t shy or awkward, she tells things as she sees them and is not afraid to stand up to anyone.
But she also has this vulnerable side that you get to see when she’s with Kale. He brings out the best in her: her strength, her sweet side and the loyal and protective streaks that make her an awesome character.
She’s very easy to like. Her witty comments make Touch a super fun read.

“Current relationship status?” Her voice cut like an arctic chill
blowing through the room.
“If you mean me, then you’re not my type. If you mean my dad,
he’s single, but I don’t think you’re his type either,” I said with a
small smile. Mercy didn’t find it amusing. A small blue vein in her
forehead started throbbing like crazy....“Actually, come to think of it,
I don’t think he has a type. I’ve never seen him with a woman.
Mercy, I hate to break it to you, but there’s a very real possibility my dad is gay.”
Dez, Touch - Jus Accardo

What about the hottie of the book?

Kale is... special and at the beginning a little weird. Kale lived his entire life inside Denazen and only went out when they had a job for him. He doesn’t know anything from the outside world and he can touch anyone but Dez.
What you’ll love the most about Kale is his innocence. He is innocent in so many ways you just want to cuddle him. He finds the smaller things fascinating and sarcasm confusing.
But even when he’s deadly and Denazen has made him do horrible things, he can be one of the sweetest guys on the planet.

“As long as I know this" - he lifted our joined hands -
"is mine to hold, I'll wait for you forever.”
Kale, Touch - Jus Accardo

Is there a second hottie?

Yes! Glad you asked. We meet Alex, Dez’s ex-boyfriend in Touch. And he’s... kind of a jerk but a hot jerk so at almost makes it up. Almost.
He has spiky, white-blond hair, striking hazel eyes, and a piercing named Fred. Is pretty cool right?

What was the best part?

The reversed roles. While Kale can definitively take care of himself and Dez, he’s the more fragile or vulnerable of the two to me. And Dez is the strong one to hold them up while they fight against Denazen.
The sensations of discovering the world for the first time was another amazing thing. Though Kale’s comments and questions you get to see things for the first time no matter how common they are.

What you didn’t like about the book?

There was a part where things felt a bit slow, but the book is fast paced through most of it and it has turns that will definitively will catch you by surprise

Anything else I should know about this?

Yes! There’s a novella, Untouched (Denazen #1.5) that is set between the last two chapters of Touch and is told from Kale’s POV. And you absolutely need to read it!
Here’s a teaser for you :)

“They'll never take me back to Denazen. I would kill a thousand if I needed to."
He nodded to Dez. "And for her?"
For her. To keep Dez from going to that place? "For her, I'd kill a million.”
Kale, Untouched - Jus Accardo

Also the second book in the series, Toxic (Denazen #2) will be out in September!

Degrees of Wrong: Interview + Giveaway!

1:38 AM 2 Comments

Today we couldn’t be more excited about bringing you the Degrees of Wrong Blog Tour hosted by the lovely Lynn @ Bringing the Epic AND a giveaway!
Lets start with the book:

This time, the straight-and-narrow path could be the road to ruin.

Dr. Elyse Morgan’s mission: find the cure to the HTN4 virus. The compensation, courtesy of the United Nations: a lab stocked with hi-tech goodies, limitless resources and enough chocolate to make her rear look like a cellulite farm. Bonus: she gets to live.

Rescued (kidnapped) and secreted (imprisoned) on an undersea warship, Elyse adjusts to her assumed identity as a cadet with the finesse of a toeless ballerina. Her sulfuric temper and blatant insubordination capture the unwanted attention of the ship’s captain, the gorgeous, infuriating, engaged Nicoli Marek.

Elyse would rather perform her own autopsy than become the other woman, but Nicoli—who’s as full of himself as he is of secrets—regards his impending marriage as a mere political transaction. And Elyse as fair game.
As Elyse’s suspicions about the UN’s true agenda mount along with her attraction to the relentless, chronically shirtless captain, she must choose between the murky path to everything she’s ever wanted, or the squeaky-clean path of self-sacrifice—which could mean taking the secrets of the virus with her to the grave.

Warning: Features a strong, chocolate-loving heroine who takes no prisoners on the way to saving the world from an epidemic and winning a captain’s heart.

Before continuing reading, please grab yourself some chocolate *puts basket full of chocolates at the entrance* And follow our advice: keep a stash of chocolates next to the book! And don’t read in public, drooling and laughing out loud can make people think you’re crazy!

We had the pleasure, or maybe the scary experience, of traveling in a Transport Pod to board The Bellator where Ms. Scarlett was waiting for us.
On our way down, we were hoping two things would happen: We’d catch a glimpse of The Captain and avoid Lt. Horan at all cost.
Anna offered us a tour, and we couldn’t say no...

To start off, we have an ice breaker question, what's your favorite color?
Red. The kind hookers wear. Sorry.
Ah, Scarlett, makes sense.

Since our blog was founded on the idea of finding mistakes in books, are there any major mistakes you remember from the editing process?  Anything you found after?  Stuff you forgot to put in? Things you wished you did differently?
Hmmm. My critique partner found a mistake that I didn’t see. When Nicoli was taking Elyse to the Admiral’s office. When she’s observing the décor of the office, she thinks to herself something along the lines of “The admiral’s office was luxurious” or something like that, but the point is, she hadn’t been introduced to the admiral yet! She wouldn’t know she was in the admiral’s office—she doesn’t know whose office Nicoli has taken her to.  I felt like such a caveman. Yeah.
Actually, that’s not a bad mistake.

We love Elyse and Nicoli. She’s witty, she’s funny, sensible, chocolate lover, super smart, seems awesome in arguments and trouble magnet. Honestly, she can be our new BFF we’d get along just fine! And him… well he’s also smart, awesome in arguments, loyal and can pull off a uniform as no one else. The dynamic between them is amazing!
How did you come up with them? Where did you get the inspiration for Elyse and Nicoli? Do you find a lot of you in her/his personality?
I’ve always been a fan of feisty heroines. Scarlett O’Hara, Anne Shirley, Lizzie Bennett. And heroes who are their equal/complement in every way—it just takes some time for both of them to realize it. There is a lot me in Elyse. I wish there was a lot of Nicoli in me…Uh, am I allowed to say that here?
I'm sorry...did you say something? I think Nicoli just walked out of the gym
wow... I'm glad they let him carry guns"

We noted your books have water as an important element in your novels… Did you grow up around water?  Or what is it that inspires you to write novels related to water?
I grew up two blocks away from the bay, which opens up into the Gulf of Mexico. My cousins and I walked to the bay to swim every day of the summer. When Disney’s The Little Mermaid came out, whoa. We were duct-taping our legs together and almost drowning and enjoying every minute of it.  That was my first “Wow the ocean=cool” moment. Then that show SeaQuest DSV came out (I KNOW you know what I’m talking about). I always fantasized that I too was a child prodigy like Lucas (and also Lucas’s love interest, because hello, Lucas was played by Jonathan Brandis) aboard a technologically advanced hyper-big deep sea vessel.
Yes, under this elegant, sophisticated composure, I’m a fantastic nerd.

Music and books tends to go together for most people (at least for us). Do you listen to music while you write?  Is there a playlist or song that inspired you during writing?
I totally agree! But I don’t listen to it while I write, I listen to it before I write, to get me in the mood for the scene. I need quiet to actually write. If it’s a falling-in-love scene, I opt for 80s love songs, like music by When In Rome, and Ah Ha. Or Distance by Christina Perri (love that chick!).
If it’s a scene where the main character is changing/growing, it will be something motivational like Skyscraper by Demi Lovato, or Titanium.
If it’s a fight scene, it’ll be Marilyn Manson, Smashing Pumpkins, Paramore, Offspring, etc.

We were lucky enough that Lt Horan didn’t catch us otherwise he might have made us do some push ups... we’re book girls, we can’t do that!

Thank you Anna for stopping by today! We hope you had fun and come over another time!

Thanks to Anna and Shamhain Publishing we have an ECopy of the book and a swag pack (that includes chocolate) to giveaway to one of you, lovely people!
So complete the rafflecopter and good luck!

Lies Beneath Review

7:43 PM 0 Comments

LIES BENEATH BY ANNE GREENWOOD BROWN (LIES BENEATH #1)

Published: June 12th 2012 by
Pulisher: Delacorte Books for Young Readers

Calder White lives in the cold, clear waters of Lake Superior, the only brother in a family of murderous mermaids. To survive, Calder and his sisters prey on humans, killing them to absorb their energy. But this summer the underwater clan targets Jason Hancock out of pure revenge. They blame Hancock for their mother's death and have been waiting a long time for him to return to his family's homestead on the lake. Hancock has a fear of water, so to lure him in, Calder sets out to seduce Hancock's daughter, Lily. Easy enough—especially as Calder has lots of practice using his irresistible good looks and charm on unsuspecting girls. Only this time Calder screws everything up: he falls for Lily—just as Lily starts to suspect that there's more to the monsters-in-the-lake legends than she ever imagined. And just as his sisters are losing patience with him.

This is the first book I read about mermaids or merpeople. And I must say I kinda love it. Lies Beanth is an interested and entertaining read.

The mood through the entire book is dark. Ask anyone around, I love dark!
The lake, the cold water and the quest for revenge helps to build it. The description of the scenery is well written and I must say, water monster waiting to snatch you and drown you or not, I’d like to visit the place.

These mermaids aren’t like your Disney stories. Bonus points there! They’re evil. More animal than human and beautiful enough to lead you to a death trap willingly. But not all is wicked fun for them. They can’t be too long out of the water or without killing someone, they can’t break promises and they’re link to their families by a psych-bond (not something I’d like, thank you).

Calder is the only male in his family, with his older sister on the lead. They’re bound together and he can’t be free of them or help the need to go back to Lake Superior for the summer every year. His instincts force him to go back as well as to look for people to draw emotion from. You see, merpeople need happy emotions to keep their own dark feelings at bay and maintain their sanity. But Calder is different from his sisters, he wasn’t born a merman and there’s still a large part of him that holds to his humanity.

Calder’s POV was something interesting. Through the book fights between his quest for revenge on the man guilty of his mother death, the longing for a real family, his need to consume human emotions and his newly found feelings for Lily.

Lily was a harder character to get to know, mainly because Calder can’t understand her at all (boys...). She keeps a lot of what’s going on in her mind to herself. She likes poetry and dresses as a Victorian poet (Weird even for my standards) and most of all she senses there’s something wrong with Calder. This is something I enjoyed a lot about her: Calder creeps her out – considering the guy is stalking her, she has a right – and she lets him know.

Calder’s sisters were something else. Maris, Tallulah (I just love that name) and Pavati are envious, evil creatures. The three are intent on getting their revenge and you get to see some personal aspects of them. Maris is the oldest and most evil, bordering on psycho yet I can’t help but like her. From the merpeople POV you can understand her nature of hunter. Pavati is probably somewhere between both of her sisters.
She likes to “play with her food” but as a born mermaid can’t really understand Calder’s feeling and conflicts. She goes along with her nature but isn’t a soulless creature. Talullah is the closest to Calder and the one who probably is more like him.
The three add a lot to the book and the story.

Some things in the ending felt rushed, I’d have like to see some parts more developed and better laid out in the book but all in all Lies Beneath is an excellent book that put Merpeople in my radar of reading.
The Next book in the series will be in Lily’s POV and honestly I can’t wait to see what goes on inside her head or what will happen next under the surface of Lake Superior.

Hello!!

Today we're very excited to bring you the Dante Walker's website!
You know, that super hot guy from the upcooming Entangled released The Collector by Victoria Scott?

Dante Walker is flippin’ awesome, and he knows it. His good looks, killer charm, and stellar confidence have made him one of hell’s best—a soul collector. His job is simple, weed through humanity and label those round rears with a big red good or bad stamp. Old Saint Nick gets the good guys, and he gets the fun ones. Bag-and-tag.
Sealing souls is nothing personal. Dante’s an equal opportunity collector and doesn’t want it any other way. But he’ll have to adjust, because Boss Man has given him a new assignment:
Collect Charlie Cooper’s soul within 10 days.
Dante doesn’t know why Boss Man wants Charlie, nor does he care. This assignment means only one thing to him, and that’s a permanent ticket out of hell. But after Dante meets the quirky, Nerd Alert chick he’s come to collect—he realizes this assignment will test his abilities as a collector, and uncover emotions deeply buried.

Yes, that Dante!

And yous let us tell you that the website is AMAZING!
